The Farmer's Wife Pony Club Sampler Quilt book by Laurie Aaron Hird.
The story behind the Farmer's Wife Pony Club Sampler quilt is this...
"In 1097 the Webb Publishing Company in the city of St. Paul created The Farmer's Wife Pony Club, inviting children to join and compete for prizes by selling subscriptions to The Farmer's Wife magazine.
The Grand Prize was a Shetland pony with a saddle or carriage. To satisfy skeptics who doubted a child would, indeed, receive a pony, they asked the winners to send photographs of themselves with their ponies.
Many of the children sent thank you letters along with their photographs. These endearing, poignant, and sometimes hilarious, letters provide a unique window into the lives of children in rural America at the turn of the 20th Century."
This book includes:
90--8 inch quilt blocks patterns includes: rotary cutting instructions, templates, foundation patterns, full-size line diagram of each block, and piecing instruction
instructions for multiple sizes...lap, twin, queen, king
CD with printable diagrams for quilt construction and full-sized templates for all 111 blocks
90 letters from the Farmer's Wife Pony Club contest winners which will give you a glimpse of life at the turn of the century
This book is the perfect addition to a quilt library that mixes quilting with history.
